The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority is planning an $850 million
bond deal in November to fund new power lines and plant improvements
and to pay off bank loans, a spokeswoman for the utility said on
Thursday.
Executives of the authority, which has 1.5 million
customers in the US commonwealth, will meet with ratings agency
analysts during the next two weeks to discuss the deal, spokesman
Virginia Gomez said.
Moody's Investors Service last February
affirmed an A3 rating on $6.2 billion of PREPA revenue debt, saying the
utility's finances were largely separate from those of the Caribbean
island's government and its chronic budget deficits.
Though
final allocations, timing of a sale and other details were still to be
settled, PREPA wants to issue $350 million of bonds for capital
spending and $500 million to satisfy bank loans due soon, according to
Gomez.
PREPA owes $300 million to Citigroup Inc and $200 million to JPMorgan Chase & Co, Gomez said.
