The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
ordered Caribbean Petroleum Refinery L.P. (CAPECO) to resume cleanup
work in the aftermath of the October 2009 explosion and fire at it’s
facility in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Last week, contractors hired by
CAPECO to perform cleanup actions walked off the job.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
issued a complaint to the Puerto Rico Air National Guard, part of the
U.S. Air Force, for improperly managing underground tanks used to store
diesel fuel and gasoline at its facility in Toa Baja. Leaking
underground storage tanks pose significant threats to soil, surface
water and ground water.
