Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials and Puerto Rico Governor’s Authorized Representative (GAR) staff will hold an Applicants’ Briefing meeting related to FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grants Program (HMGP) for the 10 designated municipalities, state agencies and some private non-profit organizations. The meeting will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010, at 10:00 am, at the Puerto Rico State Emergency Management Agency facilities.
Puerto Rico has adopted a Renewable Portfolio Standard, seeking to generate 15% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will pay a $13,000 fine and hold training sessions on storage tank regulations to settle a complaint issued by EPA over a failure to monitor, inspect and maintain records for underground petroleum and diesel storage tank systems at a San Juan, P.R. facility. Petroleum underground storage tanks pose significant threats to soil, surface water and ground water across the nation if they leak.
